Our Aim

The inspiration behind the Malta Cyber Games is the emerging culture of Electronic Sport, also known as eSports, or competitive gaming - which, in a nutshell, is a niche of the prospering video-games industry whereby people are pitted in a virtual arena with fixed set of goals and rules, with the better skilled emerging as the victor; its competitive element is in many ways similar to sports. eSports is practiced in a select few games deemed to be balanced enough for competitive play, and examples of such games include Counter-Strike 1.6 as a team shooting game, Starcraft 2 as a strategy title and Quake Live specialising in duelling. The concentration of eSport enthusiasm is differently spread throughout the globe, being almost a national sport in South Korea, but virtually unheard of in others. eSports also maintains a strong presence in China and several South-East Asian countries, Europe (particularly Sweden, Denmark and Germany) as well as in North America, Australia, South Africa and Brazil.

The MCG serves as a beacon for eSports in Malta. We seek to promote and cultivate this growing trend in our country by uniting the enthusiasts, organising events and doing anything to strengthen the community, striving to turn local competitive gaming into something that is more professional and in conformity with international standards.

The Team

The Malta Cyber Games team is comprised of 2 individuals that work incessantly to continuously improve the services offered by MCG. The following are the main team members that are at the forefront of MCG development.

mt Anton 'Mewt' Xuereb, is a 22 year-old Network Engineer who vividly remembers the olden days of gaming in Malta, and has taken it upon himself not just to bring back the golden days, but to take gaming and eSports to new heights - and it is with this mentality that he founded the Malta Cyber Games.

Having played several competitive titles such as Enemy Territory, Call of Duty and Counter-Strike: Source, Anton's wealth of experience within a gaming community, as well as his vast technical know-how brought him to the forefront of the gaming community, having been part of the administration of LucidLAN, hosting some of Malta's biggest LAN parties including the VunderLAN series, and more recently, being a crucial part of the administration at Hackers LAN 2009 and 2010.

In 2009, Anton visited The eXperience in Roskilde, Denmark, accompanying the mt Project EVERSIO.CoD4 team as part of the team's management - the insight into international events makes him one of the most knowledgeable Maltese personalities as regards eSports and LAN events.

mt Michele 'Mikk' Magro: 20, is known to most of the community as the main person behind anything e-sports in Malta. A retired competitive gamer himself, Mikk has been in many successful teams including the now defunct Mepa who were once at the forefront of anything competitive in Malta. After a number of failed attempts to start new teams, Michele decided to take on a managerial role and thus, along with Neville Zammit, created Project Eversio, that would serve as the incubator for Malta's most successful CoD4 team for the last 8 LAN parties.

Michele's role in MCG is varied and attaching single job title would be unfair. Michele authors most of the articles on the website, including reviews, local and foreign LAN coverage and other interesting news from the Scene. Michele also invests most of his personal time online organising tournaments on MCG for the gaming scene in Malta. It's enough to say that without his support MCG would have been relegated to the community dustbin were most startups eventually end up.
